About

Hi there. I’m Lee A. Eide from Red Wing, MN. I’m a recovering alcoholic and have written a book/ePub entitled “Overcome Any Personal Obstacle, including Alcoholism, by Understanding Your Ego” — http;//www.lulu.com/spotlgiht/leewriter — and is available on Amazon as well as the Lulu.com address above. In this blog I will be sharing some valuable content from my book and also addiction-recovery methods and insights from a variety of sources.

While it’s true I do not have formal education in the substance-abuse recovery field, I have experienced the seemingly hopeless, hellish valleys of alcoholism. Amy Althaus, my wife of over 19 years, died in November 2006 due to failing internal organs destroyed by long-term abuse of alcohol and then I nearly a month later after I quit drinking cold turkey and had serious symptoms caused by alcohol withdrawal. Plus I’ve been in detox at least seven times for abusing alcohol over multiple days and have lost three jobs because of alcohol and nearly lost my current job at Wal-Mart due to alcohol-related absences

But my story has a happy ending. Eventually I was able to, with God’s help, dig down deep enough and look hard enough through my mind and soul until I discovered why I was abusing alcohol even though intellectually I knew drinking was the last thing I should have been doing. In my case, I was trying to drown my shame and guilt over not trying to help my wife Amy address her drinking obsession.

You’ve probably heard that “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”. In the case of my becoming sober 24/7 every day, when I was able to identify the reason for my drinking, and proactively address those reasons, that made me strong enough to tell myself I don’t need to run from my past by getting really, really drunk.

Now my mission in life is clear: Help other people who are encountering alcohol-related issues by providing insights I’ve gained either through experience and gotten by reading the work of experts in the recovery field and from bright, giving individuals who’ve written the best, most effective self-help books and produced honest, relevant documentaries about the recovery field (e.g. – Monica Richardson who made the documentary, “13th Step) .
